Staying Strong in God’s Love
The love of God is unconditional, it doesn’t matter who you are or what you have done. Here is why staying strong in God’s love is important
That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)
Paul uses four dimensions to describe the immensity of God’s love. Its width reminds us that His arms reach around the globe. On the cross, Jesus hands were stretched out for the whole world. Its length reminds us that His love extends from eternity past to eternity future.
It existed before the foundation of the world and will exist after this world’s end. Its depth reminds us that His love addresses the deepest needs of the human heart. God loves sinners no matter who they are, what they have done, or where they have been. Its height reaches to the very throne of God. Out of love Jesus came down from heaven and lifts up to His level anyone who chooses to believe, because no one can climb up to His.
Dwell (stay) means more than merely to live in a place. It means to settle down, move in, take up residence, and be at home (John 14:23). When God makes His home in the hearts of us and the Holy Spirit fills us with His presence, we begin to understand the length, depth, width, and breath of His love.
God’s love for us is a safeguard against the difficulties of life. Know this truth and be convinced that nothing can separate you from God’s love.
God gave the most extravagant thing He could demonstrate His love for us by summoning and sending His only begotten Son to pay our debt of sin. This is how deep His love for us is!
Consider this:
- Have you received God’s love?
- Do you sometimes doubt the love of God when things tough?
Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your unconditional love for me, help me to receive, be rooted and grounded in your love. Amen!
