Know What is Pleasing to God
In one way or the other, most Christians desire to know what is pleasing to God but do not know how to go about it. Here is how.
Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light (Colossians 1:11-12).
The better you know God and His Word, the better you will know what is pleasing to Him – a knowledge that becomes second nature, producing confidence by discerning God’s will rather than fear. This knowledge produces fruitful character, conduct, conversation, and contributions (giving of resources). It also increases, becoming a part of who you are. You no longer rely solely on experience; you progress in your understanding of God as you progress in your understanding of His Word. People who take God’s Word seriously do not just read it to see what it says, they make it a map for life so they can learn what to do – and then they do it.
When we please the Lord constantly, that is our Christian walk. When we produce fruit consistently, that is our Christian work. When we progress in knowledge continually, that is our Christian wisdom. When we persevere in stress cheerfully, that is our Christian welfare. When we praise God correctly, that is our Christian worship.
Our strength comes from the Lord, who has qualified us and made us partakers of His inheritance. When you immerse yourself in God’s wisdom you know how to persevere for the long haul and in the daily grind, not just in moments of crisis. As followers of Christ we do not simply endure difficulties as the world does; we triumph in them with joy because we see spiritual realities beyond our circumstances. Joyful living in the midst of difficulty is the testing time for Christians because our only source is God.
