In God’s Presence
So all the work that Solomon had done for the house of the LORD was finished, and Solomon brought in the things which his father David had dedicated: the silver and the gold and all the furnishings. And he put them in the treasuries of the house of God (2Chronicles 5:1)
God had guided His people out of Egypt with His presence in a cloud (Ex. 13:20-22). That cloud had settled over the tabernacle (Ex. 40:34-38). When a cloud filled the new temple in Jerusalem, the people of Israel know God was saying, “I am with you, and they rejoiced.
Today, we do not need to visit a temple to be in God’s presence. Because Christ died on the cross for our sins, we can know His presence daily through the Holy Spirit that lives within us when we accept the gift of forgiveness and new life that God offers us:
“Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water” (Hebrew. 10:19-22).
To draw near to God is the essence of Christianity under the New Covenant. This is unlike the OT system, in which worshippers were restricted from His presence.
Consider this:
- Are you born again?
- Do you know the presence of God?
Prayer: Father, I thank You for loving me and sending your Son to die in my place so that I can be set free. Amen!
