Can you Hide from God’s Presence?
Can you hide from God’s presence? This is a relevant question for you to find out. Here is how to know if you can hide from His presence.
But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish, so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD (Jonah 1:3).
Jonah’s journey away from God’s sovereign will and presence was a downward one. Jonah went down to Joppa, down into the ship, down into the deep, down into the belly of the fish. Then the fish went down to the very depths of the sea. Still, Jonah was not able to escape the presence and grace of the sovereign God who pursued him.
Can you hide anything from the presence of God? As human as we are, we sometimes want to play smart and think it is our right do whatever we want. We sin, we hurt people, we disobey God in many ways, and also try to hide from His presence. But our secrets and nakedness are always before Him, He knows everything about us, we cannot hide from His presence.
In Psalm 139, David describes God’s perfect knowledge of man. He knows your sitting down and rising up, that is the routine of your life. Whether you are at rest or work, God sees and knows. He understands your thoughts, positively or not. God cares about every detail of your life. God is near. What’s more, He is immediately accessible wherever His children go. And nothing can separate you from His love not even death (Rom. 8:38-39). And when you worship, you have an incredible sense of His manifest presence.
We are so cherished by God that He thinks of us at all times, even in this very moment!
Consider this:
- Why are you fleeing from the presence of God?
- Do you know that God loves and cares for you no matter how far you have gone from Him?
Prayer: Father, You are worthy to be praised! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! There is nothing about me that You do not know, help me to live daily in Your presence. Amen!
