Keeping The Conditions
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty (Whose power no foe can withstand). Psalm 91:1, AMPC
What a relieving assurance of God’s protection over those who believe in Him. Once you know from God’s Word that divine protection belongs to you, there are conditions you must keep to activate that protection in your life. The Word of God makes these conditions very clear.
You can find the first one at the beginning of Psalm 91: “He who abides in the secret place of the Most High shall remain fixed under the shadow of the Almighty.”
If you are to enjoy God’s protection, you’re going to have to abide in Him. To abide means “to dwell in.” It is a word that implies a permanent dwelling place, not a temporary situation. It is the place where you make your home. This word doesn’t indicate a coming in and going out but a continual dwelling under God’s shadow.
What does it take to become an abider? It takes putting God’s Word in your heart, for one thing. In John 15:7, Jesus said, “If you live in Me (abide vitally united to Me) and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.”
The truth that is alive in your heart is the truth you act on every day. It doesn’t come from simply reading scripture once, shouting hallelujah and going on. It comes from knowing the Word so well that it comes to your thing instantly in a crisis situation. Truth comes alive in you when you think about it, meditate on it and apply it to your life. At the very moment of danger, the Word of God is your first thought.
