The Ministry of the Holy Spirit
Series: “The Ministry of the Holy Spirit”
Jesus Promises Another Helper
If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you, (John 4:15-18).
Jesus promised to not leave His disciples as orphans; He would send another Helper (“one who comes alongside”). In the Holy Spirit, Jesus would permanently be present with His followers.
As at this time the disciples knew Jesus as their teacher, helper, and source of power, whom they can ask questions. I can just imagine when He announced to them that He was going away from them to prepare a place for them and will come again to receive them unto Himself, (John 14:2-4). But He assures them that when He is gone, the Holy Spirit assumes that role. The Holy Spirit would remind them and anyone who believes in Him of all things.
If there is a misunderstood member of the triune God, it is the Holy Spirit. His behind-the-scenes role in the plan of God may be due to His status as “Spirit” (John 4:24) – a state less concrete than “Father” or “Son.” Yet it is a deficiency in our understanding that we know less of the Holy Spirit than we do of God the Father or Jesus the Son.
The Holy Spirit not only convicts believers but guides us into all truth and points us to Christ, glorifying Him, His witness can be trusted.
Consider this:
- Have you had encounter with the Holy Spirit?
- Are you sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit?
Prayer: Thank You Father for sending the Holy Spirit to be present and to dwell with us forever guiding us unto all truth. Amen!
